  2015 SEASON ROUND-UP

The traditional April start at Bewl blasted off the 2015 season. After a great practice for a good fleet on Saturday 11th, in fresh breezes and sunshine, serious racing on Sunday 12th saw the forecast WSW Force 6 kick in during the morning. (Report)  George Evans used his new Hyde sail to effect in the first race, beating Alex Montgomery into second. Only these two attempted the mounting wind for the second race, and Alex' win by 20 yards (photo below) tied the scores and gave him the event win (and TT Yellow Jersy) on countback. (The Race 1 gusts brought Alastair's attention sharply back to capsize recovery and Mast Buoyancy -Testing and Sealing)

 The
return to a favourite venue at
Bassenthwaite May 2-4, had a good turnout in this lovely setting
(sharing the weekend with a big fleet of the RS Tera’s for their Northerns.) To say the least, conditions (and the courses) varied, from Saturday's icy blasts to light shifting breeze on Sunday, and a final sunny Force 4. The event win (and top of the TT Leaderboard ) came down to the last race, snatched by John Terry on countback from Gareth Ede. (Report)

The 2015 Sailing Programme opened in windy April sunshine as usual at Bewl and then a good fleet met wildly-varying conditions over the May Bank Holiday at a favourite venue at Bassenthwaite. Then we were back to the Rutland May 24-25th Open event, where local lad John Terry scored straight wins, in NNW-N light-moderate breezes (John is pushing the boat fast at http://youtu.be/IjfiVjoWtxc ) The season highlight, at Bala on 4th-6th July had a good fleet (and two new members) to enjoy the hospitality and mix of serious and fun racing. Wind strength, rain, and sunshine varied dramatically (TT Report and Bala Fun racing)   In early August, a Force 5-6 gusting SW at Stone Sailing Club on the Blackwater Estuary really asked questions for Catapult and the Unicorns (photo below) and then true sea sailing at Bridlington for the 2015 Nationals over the August Bank Holiday tested a good fleet with a fine mix of wind strength, tidal flow and sea conditions. For the 2015 Northern Championships, the fleet was back at Yorkshire Dales on October 10th-11th, home club of Gareth and Stuart Ede, alongside the Contenders and Code Zero's for their Northerns. A nine-boat fleet had close racing (photo above) and the battle at the front between Gareth and John Terry shifted when the easterly breeze strengthened on the second day, and John scored straight wins. Further back, third was decided on the last race, George Evans ahead by a point over Alastair Forrest (Report)
