Catapult
returned to Instow for the 2009 National Championship at North Devon
Yacht Club over the long weekend of Friday 19th to Sunday 21st June.
NDYC is located at Instow
opposite Appledore on the picturesque Torridge estuary close
to Bideford and Barnstaple. Being a popular
holiday destination there is lots of
accommodation and camping available, but on the
other hand UK holidays are in vogue
this year, so don't delay getting yourselves
booked in somewhere.
For accommodation and
restaurants close to the Club, try www.instow.net. Covering a wider area
are the tourist information websites for Barnstaple (www.staynorthdevon.co.uk)
and North
Devon (www.northdevon.com).
The Club kindly said we
can park campervans and caravans on the dinghy park.
However the space is limited to four (give or take
the odd smaller van), so it would be
advisable to let our contact at the Club know that
you will be camping
The Club entrance can be found right next to the
old level crossing (now part of the
Tarka Trail) in the centre of the village. Club
information is available on
http://website.lineone.net/~ndyc, and their phone
number is 01271 860367. Alternatively (or in
addition) there are plenty of restaurants to
choose from locally, including Rick Stein’s
restaurant across the river at Padstow!
The surrounding area is a great place for a
holiday. The coast is spectacular with many
great beaches, dramatic cliffscapes and quaint
fishing ports. Instow is very close to
Exmoor, and there are the delights of the
Tarka Trail for cycling and walking from Instow
up the Torridge Valley. There are many
picturesque villages, stately homes and
gardens and lots and lots of attractions for
the kids, which are too numerous to list here.
Just look in your road atlas,
National Trust handbook, or contact tourist information on
01237 477676 (or through their websites above)
to find out just how much there is to do
and see. So it should be no problem enticing
spouses and family to accompany you on
what could be a super holiday or long weekend.
